Update

Alicja currently has a cold, so the family is waiting for the doctors' decision on how to proceed with her treatment.
On March 10, a visit to the oncology clinic in Poznań is planned, during which doctors will assess Alicja's health and decide whether it will be possible to perform the planned surgery. At the moment, the prosthesis is functioning properly, which gives hope for a positive development of the situation. After the consultation at the clinic, further information regarding Alicja's treatment will be provided. March 10, 2026

First signs

The first symptom was a fever that wouldn't go away. Days passed, and the temperature kept returning, as if the body was persistently demanding attention.
Then a bulge appeared. Visible. Difficult to ignore.

The diagnosis was made in silence.

Alicja was admitted to the Karol Jonscher Clinical Hospital in Poznań. A series of tests provided an answer that her parents were not prepared for.
Hepatoblastoma. A rare childhood cancer.

"I remember that moment. I stood there and thought only: why her?"
Treatment scheduled by date

On July 26, 2022, a tumor biopsy was taken and a vascular port was implanted. Chemotherapy was started according to the Standard Risk Hepatoblastoma protocol. More cycles. More checkups. Ultrasound, MRI, CT scan.

On October 11, 2022 , a left-sided hemihepatectomy was performed in Gdańsk. Part of the liver was removed, as well as a vascular port. Alicja's body underwent further procedures, which were necessary but difficult to accept at an age when the world should still be simple and safe.

"I looked at her after the operation and was afraid to breathe."
Treatment brings new challenges

The disease did not end with the surgery. Complications arose. Disorders resulting from impaired renal tubule function. Biliary tract disease. Cholestasis.

On November 21, 2025, an ECPW procedure was performed and a bile duct prosthesis was inserted. Treatment continues. Further tests, a biopsy of the remaining part of the liver, and removal of lymph nodes in the abdominal cavity are planned, this time in Gdańsk.

Alicja Szalczyńska – fundraiser for medical treatment

Alicja is the most important thing now.

Alicja's mother quit her job to be with her daughter. Today, both of them function in the hospital reality determined by everyday hospital life.

The older daughter and younger son stayed at home. Too young to fully understand why their mother was disappearing for weeks at a time, but old enough for their longing to be evident in their every gesture.

Help needed

The goal of this fundraiser is to support the family so that Alicja's treatment can continue without interruption and without compromise. So that her loved ones can focus on what is most important right now.
To Alicja's health.
