It all started in March 2026. At first, it was just a dull ache in her leg. My daughter Alina said her shin was aching, sometimes more, sometimes less.
Then came the first visit to a specialist. The doctor examined me more closely than one might expect for “just a leg ache.” The referrals started piling up. One test, then another, imaging, consultations. Everything started happening quickly, as if someone had suddenly sped up time. Day by day, the sense of normalcy faded away.
Biopsy and diagnosis
The biopsy took place in April. That moment stands out in my memory unlike any other day. Not as a specific day, but as a tension that’s hard to describe. A wait with no clock. A silence that weighs more than words.
Then came the diagnosis: undifferentiated sarcoma of the tibia, with suspected metastases to the lungs.
Treatment
Today, my daughter Alina is undergoing chemotherapy. This phase has set a new daily routine: hospital visits, treatment, and periods when her body needs to recover.
She is about to undergo surgery to remove the tumor. This is an important moment for the whole family on this journey. It’s difficult, but it offers hope. Further chemotherapy is planned after the surgery.
The Road to Treatment
The distance between the house in Radomsko and the place where Alina is receiving treatment in Warsaw is about 180 kilometers.
It’s a journey that begins early in the morning, when the city hasn’t yet woken up, and the car is filled with a silence thick with thoughts. It’s a stretch between everyday life and hope. Between home, where everything is familiar, and Warsaw, where every hallway, every door, and every test brings with it questions to which I desperately want to know the answers.
Alina's brother
Alina’s brother lives at home; he has a disability and doesn’t quite understand what’s happening to his sister or why their daily lives have changed. Her grandparents have been a tremendous help in caring for him, and my husband and I are very grateful to them.
Many passions
Before her illness, Alina was full of energy. She loved being active: rollerblading, biking, swimming, and dancing brought her joy and a sense of freedom. She was also very sensitive and had a passion for creating: she made jewelry and painted, using these activities to express her inner world and emotions.
