Two diagnoses and a very difficult treatment
Ewa was diagnosed with stage IV adenocarcinoma of the distal colon and stage I left breast cancer. On April 28, she underwent a breast-conserving surgery on her left breast. She is currently receiving targeted hormone therapy for her breast cancer, while also undergoing intensive chemotherapy and radiation therapy for her distal colon cancer. The treatment follows a very demanding schedule: five weeks of therapy, followed by a short break and a planned surgery for the cancer of the distal colon. The next stage will involve further chemotherapy and radiation therapy for the breast. Ewa is also considering specialized treatment and consultations in Munich.
A daily life filled with pain and exhaustion
The illness and treatment have severely weakened Ewa’s body. Following her breast surgery, she had a vascular port implanted near her right collarbone, which, despite the passage of time, continues to cause pain, swelling, and fluid buildup requiring further medical interventions. Side effects of the therapy have also emerged, such as pain in her hands, extreme weakness after radiation therapy, drowsiness, and the need to rest even after the simplest daily activities. Comorbidities also add to the burden: hypertension, hyperthyroidism, hyperparathyroidism, prediabetes, and high cholesterol.
Far from family, close to each other
Ewa lives with her husband in Germany. They are largely on their own there, as their children and grandchildren live in Poland. Her husband is also dealing with his own health issues following knee surgery and is currently on medical leave. Despite her exhaustion and fear, Ewa has no intention of giving up. She says that after the initial shock, it’s time to humbly face the disease and fight for the years of life ahead.
Help that can make a difference
The funds raised will be used primarily to cover consultations and planned therapy in Munich, which may aid in her ongoing treatment. Every contribution gives Ewa great hope for more effective treatment, greater peace of mind, and a more stable daily life during this very difficult struggle.
