Difficult diagnosis and treatment
In May 2025, I received the devastating diagnosis for my son Krystian: high-risk acute myeloid leukemia with a chromosome 7 mutation.
From that day on, our life has been a constant struggle. The months that followed brought numerous challenges, including grueling rounds of chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor.
The patient developed PTLD, a type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. It was also necessary to remove a lymph node and administer a hematopoietic stem cell transplant.
Setbacks
My son faced a host of challenges. He developed stage III toxic kidney damage, graft-versus-host disease, a central line infection, and post-transplant malnutrition.
My son also has a severely compromised immune system. In addition, several viruses have reactivated: EBV, BKV, CMV, and now VZV. He developed shingles accompanied by meningitis and eye involvement. Furthermore, he has developed peripheral polyneuropathy.
Everyday Life in Isolation
For many weeks now, Krystian’s world and mine have been confined to a hospital room and complete isolation. His daily life is a constant struggle to stay healthy. I’m by his side every day. I hold his hand and comfort him when he’s feeling weak. His dad visits him on weekends, if Krystian’s health allows it.
To be there for our son during this most difficult time, my husband and I had to quit our jobs. We’ve devoted our entire lives to fighting for Krystian’s health.
Empathy and care
Not long ago, Krystian was a boy full of energy. He loved cars, video games, and building with LEGO bricks. Krystian also has a huge heart. He always helped me rescue stray animals, showing them care and empathy.
Support is needed
Today, his greatest dream is simply to return home, to a normal life, and to his family. Unfortunately, the costs of his daily battle with the disease are constantly rising. That is why we are asking for your support with all our hearts. Every bit of help gives Krystian a chance to recover and regain the childhood that the disease has taken from him.
