Update

The course of the last visit
During her medical appointment on February 18, Ms. Krystyna reported a persistent, very tiring cough. As a result, doctors prescribed inhalation treatment (Pulmicort) and cough syrup (Thiocodin). Unfortunately, these have not brought about any significant improvement so far, and the cough continues with similar frequency. The results of a CT scan performed on February 9 showed changes visible in the right lung. However, it was decided to continue immunotherapy, as the changes may be inflammatory in nature, which could also be the cause of the persistent cough. During auscultation, doctors found murmurs in the lungs.
Well-being and further treatment
Ms. Krystyna currently describes her condition as moderate. She is most bothered by a persistent cough, which appeared after radiation therapy and greatly weakens her body. It is accompanied by general fatigue, muscle pain, and rapid exhaustion during everyday activities. The next medical appointment is scheduled for March 11, during which doctors will reassess his health and the further course of treatment. March 10, 2026

The illness manifested itself at a time that was supposed to be calmer.

A persistent and troublesome cough was the symptom whose significance only became apparent over time. An X-ray examination performed due to the symptoms revealed a change that required further diagnosis. That was the moment when everyday life began to be subordinated to treatment. A malignant tumor of the bronchi and lungs was diagnosed. The location of the lesion was not clear. Further treatment was initiated immediately.

The treatment proved to be a long and burdensome process.

On November 16, 2023, a resection of the lower lobe of the left lung was performed, along with lymphadenectomy. For a body of this age, it was a serious effort, requiring a long recovery and constant support from loved ones.

In January 2024, a CT scan revealed metastatic lesions in the liver. From late January to February, Krystyna underwent two cycles of palliative chemoimmunotherapy. Since March, treatment has continued in the form of immunotherapy administered every three weeks.

Subsequent stages and changing health situation

In August 2024, a PET CT scan revealed two focal lesions in the upper lobe of the right lung. Krystyna was referred for stereotactic radiotherapy, which was performed in the fall.

Further tests yielded cautious but important information. In June 2025, regression of metastatic changes in the liver was observed. In November, a reduction in focal lesions after radiotherapy was confirmed. Immunotherapy treatment is still ongoing and requires regular check-ups.

Everyday life requiring constant attention

After radiotherapy, she continues to suffer from a dry, exhausting cough that affects her daily comfort. Krystyna also struggles with comorbidities, including hypertension and atrial fibrillation. Her health requires constant monitoring and regular medical consultations.

Krystyna lives in Wołów. Her treatment takes place in Wrocław, at the University Clinical Hospital. Commuting, visits, and periods of convalescence have become an integral part of her daily life.

The family as a foundation for everyday life

The whole family is involved in caring for Krystyna. Her husband, children, grandchildren, and siblings share the responsibilities of caring for her, transporting her to the hospital, and organizing her treatment. This help allows her to continue her therapy and daily life. The presence of her great-grandchildren brings lightness and energy to her everyday life. It helps her maintain relationships and not focus all her attention solely on her illness.

What allows you to maintain a sense of continuity

When her health allows, Krystyna returns to small, familiar activities. Knitting, solving crossword puzzles, and taking short walks in the forest during the season allow her to maintain a fragment of her former daily routine and a sense of agency.

These moments matter. They allow you to maintain an identity that is not solely defined by your role as a patient.

What matters today

Treatment is ongoing and requires constant expenditure on medication, doctor's appointments, and transportation to medical facilities. After long-term therapy, the body needs systematic support and care, which become increasingly demanding with age.

The funds allocated for this purpose will cover current needs related to treatment and daily functioning.

Not everything can be predicted or planned in advance.
However, you can ensure that everyday life after diagnosis is lived with mindfulness, calmness, and as little stress as possible.
