Treatment continues
Today, Marlena has already completed her third round of chemotherapy. Every passing day of this battle demands more and more strength from her, as if her body had to contend not only with the disease but also with the toll of the treatment itself. Weakness has become a daily reality for her, and the side effects serve as a constant reminder of the difficult journey she is currently undergoing.She has an important test coming up in July: a CT scan. It is after this test that the doctors will assess whether the treatment is having the desired effect and whether the disease is progressing. It will be a tense moment, but also one filled with hope.
Longing for everyday life
Marlena misses her children very much. She misses their voices, their presence, and the ordinary moments that used to be part of her daily life. Marlena is having a very hard time with this stage of treatment. She is very weak, and the frequent four-day stays in the ward are taking a heavy toll on her. The illness struck her as early as childhood
Marlena’s battle with cancer began at a very young age. She was only four and a half years old when doctors diagnosed her with Wilms’ tumor, a rare form of kidney cancer that affects children. As a result of her treatment, her left kidney had to be removed.
The following years of her childhood were marked by regular checkups and examinations, with the shadow of risk always looming in the background. Until she was eight, Marlena lived in a mother-and-child home in Warsaw. The only thing that mattered at the time was that the disease did not return.
Over the years of relative calm, her anxiety gradually subsided, and her daily life began to return to normal. She came to believe that the most difficult experiences were now behind her.
Years later, another diagnosis
Her childhood experiences have made Marlena vigilant and attentive to her own health. During one of her routine checkups, the doctors performed a colonoscopy. During the procedure, they detected a lesion in her colon measuring over five centimeters. Further steps were taken almost immediately.
The tumor was removed, and the tissue sample was sent for histopathological examination. Three weeks later, Marlena received the results. The diagnosis was clear: colorectal cancer.
On March 13, 2026, surgery was performed to remove the lesion . However, the subsequent histopathological examination revealed some difficult news: metastases to the lymph nodes were found.
Waiting for a treatment plan
Marlena is currently at home recovering from surgery. She has an appointment with her oncologist on April 14. During the consultation, the doctors will determine the next steps in her treatment and her chemotherapy regimen. Her treatment will take place at the cancer hospital in Rzeszów. This is just the beginning of a journey that could last many months.
The hardest thing is to think about the children's future
Marlena is the mother of two little girls: four-year-old Kamila and tiny Kaja, who is just fourteen months old. While Marlena is in the hospital, their father will take care of the children. The family is trying to prepare for the long months of treatment, which could last up to a year. However, this isn’t the only difficult experience this family has faced. Two years ago, Marlena lost her mother, who also had cancer. Marlena’s partner is also caring for his father following a leg amputation. Today , the whole family is trying to find balance in a reality that has suddenly been dominated by illness once again.
She always wanted to make others feel good
In her daily life, Marlena works as a medical caregiver, looking after the elderly and people with disabilities. Helping others has always come naturally to her. Her other passion is the beauty industry. She finds in makeup a way to explore feminine beauty. Today, however, most of her energy is devoted to her treatment.
