Neurological symptoms

At the beginning of May, there was no sign of the tragedy that would befall our family. Just a few days earlier, Natalka was a lively, smiling 7-year-old. She played, laughed, and enjoyed every day.

Suddenly, alarming neurological symptoms appeared—difficulty recognizing loved ones and balance issues. From one day to the next, our daughter’s condition began to deteriorate.

After being admitted as an emergency case to the Children’s Health Center in Warsaw and undergoing a series of tests, we received a diagnosis that robbed us of our peace of mind and sense of security—a widespread brainstem tumor classified as grade 4 in terms of malignancy.

Further research

The tumor is located in the brainstem—the area responsible for vital functions. Because of its location, it cannot be safely removed in its entirety. Doctors were only able to remove part of the tumor and collect tissue samples for testing, in the hope of finding a way to treat it effectively.

Shortly thereafter, Natalka had to undergo another surgery. Serious complications had arisen, along with a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid, which required immediate intervention.

Every new piece of information felt like another blow to us. Instead of good news, we heard about new risks. Our normal life turned into a daily struggle for our little girl’s health, well-being, and future.

Treatment

Today, Natalka’s life looks completely different from what it was just a few weeks ago. The tumor has robbed her of her childhood, her mobility, and her independence. Our 7-year-old daughter is struggling with paralysis on the right side of her body; she cannot speak and has trouble swallowing. Activities that come naturally to most children have become a huge challenge for her.

Natalia requires constant care and assistance practically around the clock. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy, following radiation therapy, and continues to battle her illness.

The doctors are doing everything they can, but high-grade glioblastoma is one of the most dangerous types of brain cancer. Despite this, we’re not giving up, and we’re exploring every possible option for our little girl.

The Fragility of Everyday Life

For the past few weeks, our daily life has revolved around hospital rooms, tests, and the various stages of treatment at the Children’s Health Center in Warsaw. We are by Natalia’s side, supporting her every day. We never leave her side, staying with her through the toughest moments. Our family and all the kind-hearted people around us have also been a tremendous source of support in this battle.

Not long ago, Natalka was a lively, smiling 7-year-old who couldn’t sit still. Today, her world is confined to hospital walls, physical therapy, and treatment.

Despite everything, we haven’t lost hope. We’re seeing small but very important signs of progress—Natalka is smiling more often, she’s starting to eat on her own, and she’s fighting bravely every day. On June 8, we’ll begin radiation therapy, which will be the next step on this difficult journey. We believe that many small victories still lie ahead of us and that our little girl will regain as much of her former life as possible.
