The moment of diagnosis
It all began in 2013, when I was pregnant. It was supposed to be a time of peace and joy, but instead, I received alarming test results and was ordered to undergo further tests. The doctors began searching for the cause, and I lived in a state of uncertainty, torn between hope and fear, not yet knowing exactly what lay ahead.
In 2014, I was diagnosed with a myeloproliferative neoplasm. Those words sounded unreal.
Treatment
For many years, I took chemotherapy in pill form. Quietly, every day, without fanfare, but with a heavy burden that eventually became routine. Life went on, though the illness was always there in the background. Then came the bone marrow transplant. It was a difficult but pivotal moment.
Today I’m getting to know myself all over again, because I’ve developed steroid-induced diabetes—yet another part of daily life that I need to come to terms with and incorporate into my routine.
Quiet Everyday Life
I’m currently at home on sick leave. My days no longer have the pace or rush of work. They pass more slowly, at a rhythm dictated by my body.
The biggest challenge was getting around. Even taking a few simple steps requires concentration and strength, as if every movement were a small effort that needs to be carefully planned.
Today, simple tasks have taken on new meaning, and patience is something I’m learning all over again every day. Although this experience is challenging, it’s still my everyday life—just completely different from what I knew before.
Speedway
Before his illness, speedway was more than just a sport.
It was a sound that could bring a smile to my face even before the racers took to the track: that distinctive roar of the engines, the tension in the air just before the start. It was the excitement that completely swept me away.
There was something pure about cheering: focusing on the moment, on the ride, on what was happening right here and now.
Help
It’s over 400 km to Gliwice, where I receive my treatment. Every trip like this is a long, grueling journey—not only physically, but also financially.
Transportation costs are a major burden for me, and regular visits are essential for me to continue my treatment.
I would really appreciate your support. Any help will make this journey just a little bit easier.
