Dawid is battling acute leukemia and needs your support!

Until recently, Dawid led an active life filled with sports, hanging out with friends, and daily exercise. It was hard for him to imagine a day without running, swimming, or playing squash. Today, he spends most of his time in the hematology ward, battling one of the most aggressive forms of leukemia. Instead of plans and daily activities, he now faces months in the hospital, grueling treatment, and the wait for a bone marrow transplant.

It started out unremarkably

In the fall of 2025, Dawid noticed swollen lymph nodes on his neck, under his arms, and in his groin. At first, the symptoms seemed harmless, but the discomfort grew worse with each passing week.

After the blood tests were done, everything changed in an instant. The results showed the presence of blasts—cancer cells indicative of leukemia. Dawid was immediately admitted to the hospital, where the diagnosis was confirmed: early T-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ETP-ALL), a very aggressive subtype of the disease classified as high-risk.

Months of grueling treatment

Since October, Dawid has already undergone three very intensive cycles of chemotherapy, and he still has two more stages of treatment ahead of him, including a bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. The first cycle involved two months in the hospital and as many as 16 chemotherapy infusions administered intravenously and directly into the cerebrospinal fluid. His body began to weaken very quickly. Dawid lost 15 kilograms, and he developed gastrointestinal problems, severe pain, skin lesions, and extreme weakness.

One of the most difficult moments was the post-injection syndrome following the administration of chemotherapy to the central nervous system. The pain in his head, neck, and back was so severe that he was unable to function normally for a week. Subsequent cycles brought further complications: neutropenia, the need for numerous blood and platelet transfusions, liver problems, and a very restrictive diet.

To date, Dawid has already received dozens of chemotherapy infusions, as well as numerous steroids and supportive medications. He has also had ten blood transfusions and a similar number of platelet transfusions. He has also undergone multiple bone marrow biopsies and cerebrospinal fluid punctures. The most difficult stage lies ahead of him: a bone marrow transplant and the subsequent weeks spent in strict isolation.

A life spent in constant anticipation

The illness has completely changed Dawid’s daily life. Every week is marked by test results, calls from the hospital, and doctors’ decisions regarding further treatment. For someone who used to lead an active life and was always on the go, spending months in a hospital bed is an enormous emotional burden.

Isolation poses an additional challenge. During periods of neutropenia, even a minor infection can be life-threatening. Dawid had to give up seeing his family and friends, and his social life practically ceased to exist. It is also a tremendous burden to know that his illness has robbed him of the ability to work normally and provide financial security for his loved ones.

He wants to return to the life he loved

Before his illness, sports were a huge part of Dawid’s life. Swimming, running, squash, snowboarding, and playing board games with friends were part of his daily routine and a way for him to relax. Today, his biggest dream is simply to regain his health and return to a normal life—free from hospital rooms, IVs, and constant fear for the future.

Dawid is also a longtime fan of the video game Heroes of Might and Magic III. He is a member of the community centered around this iconic game.
