Warning signal hidden in everyday life

In mid-October 2025, Philip began noticing numerous bruises on his body. They appeared unexpectedly, without any previous trauma, and apart from them there were no other symptoms that could foreshadow something more serious. Mom ordered a control blood count, treating it as a daily gesture of concern. The results came quickly, however, and turned out to be completely different from expectations. Leukocyte levels were extremely elevated.

On November 13, the research consulted a family doctor. The decision was immediate. A referral to the hospital in Trzebnica, urgent admission and further examinations, which yielded an alarming picture. Pain in the right groin, difficult to explain and inextricably linked to the development of the disease, was also noted. It was at this moment, in the sterile silence of the hospital room, that words were spoken that, to the family, sounded like the world coming to a halt. Leukemia was suspected.
A few hours later , Philip was transported by ambulance to the Cape of Hope in Wroclaw, where full diagnostics began.

Confirmation of the disease and first decisions

A series of in-depth diagnostic tests were performed at the Cape. Bone marrow harvesting, CT scans, cardiology and ophthalmology consultations, as well as a full-body ultrasound, helped determine the full picture of the condition. The diagnosis was confirmed. Philip is suffering from chronic myelogenous leukemia.

The pain in the groin appeared to be the result of a hematoma that pressed on a nerve and restricted mobility. The boy required surgical consultation and further observation. Doctors reported that treatment would be administered in the form of oral chemotherapy, which gives hope for greater comfort in the therapeutic process, although this does not diminish its importance or the challenges it brings.

Interrupted daily life

The disease came suddenly. A simple morphology became the beginning of a chain of events that followed each other with incomprehensible speed. The family had to find its way in a world where every piece of information raised anxiety, and each new day brought uncertainty.
Philip's younger sister also felt the burden of the sudden diagnosis. The change that affected the family became a source of anxiety and difficult emotions for which she was not prepared.

Philip remains under the care of doctors and spends time alternately at home and in the hospital. The hematoma in his groin continues to make it difficult for him to function on a daily basis, and the entire healing process requires regular checks, vigilance and a response to every signal from the body.

Filip loves basketball, video games, riding ATVs with his friends and science, which is pushing him toward his dream of becoming a mechatronics technician.
