Hand tremor
It all started in February 2024. Gabrysia’s right hand began to tremble. The doctor who examined her was immediately concerned about her condition. At the time, I had no idea just how much our lives were about to change.
Then everything happened in a flash. More visits, consultations, and tests. We lived from one test result to the next, hoping there would be a simple explanation for what was happening to my daughter.
Diagnosis
An imaging scan of his head revealed concerning findings. The fear that had previously been just a distant possibility became a daily reality. In July, doctors in Warsaw decided to perform a biopsy. Those were some of the hardest moments of our lives. Every day of waiting felt like an eternity.
We didn’t have to wait long for the diagnosis. I heard the words no mother ever wants to hear: a malignant brain tumor located in the thalamus.
In an instant, the world came to a standstill. Everything that had once mattered no longer did. The only thing that mattered was Gabrysia and her health. Ever since then, every day has been a struggle.
Surgery and treatment
In December, Gabrysia underwent surgery to remove a tumor. It was another period filled with fear, uncertainty, and prayers that everything would go well. Every minute of waiting seemed to drag on forever.
After the surgery, further treatment began: radiation therapy and targeted therapy. For a long time, our daily lives bore little resemblance to the life we had known before. Instead of plans and dreams, there were doctor’s appointments, test results, and the next stages of treatment.
Gabrysia is home today. However, the illness is still a part of our lives. We go to the hospital regularly for tests and checkups.
Childlike joy
Not long ago, Gabrysia’s world was full of carefree childhood joy. She loved playing with her toys, coming up with new games, and spending time with her siblings. Her sister Maja and brother Igor were her best companions on their daily adventures. The house was always filled with laughter, shared play, and childhood dreams.
