Despite the good news Szymon's body is very worn out from the treatment. The boy is swelling up badly, and Tests show a protein deficiency in the blood. Doctors regularly replenish his fluid levels and prescribe diuretics to help his body eliminate excess fluid. Further testing will be necessary to determine the cause of the drop in protein levels.A young patient's difficult moments
Szymonek is already tired of the tests and his long hospital stay. He is feeling increasingly sad and anxious about medical procedures. At his mother's request, the doctors decided to prescribe medication to help him get through this difficult time more calmly.The effects of the treatment are also evident in his appearance. Not everything immediately causes concern.
At the beginning of the year, Szymonek was ill more often than usual. He suffered from bronchitis, rashes, stomach pains, and increasing weakness. Despite this, he remained a cheerful, happy child, and it was difficult to see that he was suffering from a serious, progressive illness.
Over the following weeks , the parents consulted primary care physicians on numerous occasions. Treatment for infection and antibiotic therapy were implemented, but there was no improvement. When the symptoms persisted despite treatment, the parents decided to have laboratory tests done on their own. A complete blood count showed extremely low hemoglobin levels and a dramatic drop in platelets to 2,100. Urgent hospitalization became necessary.
The first days marked by saving lives
The first moments in the hospital were devoted to stabilizing the child's condition and conducting extensive diagnostics. Szymon received blood and platelets, as their levels posed a direct threat of internal bleeding. Numerous tests were performed , including bone marrow sampling, tomography, and internal organ assessment, in order to accurately determine the condition of his body.
Preparation for primary treatment
Since February 17 , the boy has been receiving steroids and supportive treatment to prepare his body for therapy. The first dose of chemotherapy is scheduled for February 24. The further course of treatment will depend on the test results and the body's response to the initial treatment. The previous daily routine, orderly and predictable, has given way to careful waiting to see what each new day will bring.
The family between the ward and home
The diagnosis forced an immediate reorganization of their lives. Simon's mother watches over him constantly. His father took leave from work to be as close as possible to his son and wife, while dividing his time between the hospital and home, where his siblings need care.
Separation is a difficult experience for everyone, and longing for everyday life together has become part of the new reality.
A little boy in a big world
Szymon is still very young. The hospital environment disrupts the natural rhythm of his childhood world, to which he instinctively returns through play and his favorite objects.
Simple fascinations can bring a smile even in a place filled with medical procedures. There is something moving in this spontaneous joy—the ignorance of a child, which protects them from the burden of meanings known to adults.
Today, the family is focusing all its attention on ensuring that the treatment proceeds safely and that each passing day brings Szymon closer to recovery.
