First symptoms

The first worrying symptoms appeared in April. Bruises began to appear on my son Wojtek’s body. He stopped walking and said his legs hurt.

The blood test results showed very concerning levels of platelets, so the doctor issued an urgent referral to the hospital in Opole. It was there that the word no one ever wants to hear was first mentioned: leukemia.

Exams, diagnosis, hospital

He was quickly admitted to Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław, where he underwent a series of tests: an ultrasound, an X-ray, a lumbar puncture, a chest X-ray, and a bone marrow test. The diagnosis was clear: acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

At the end of April, Wojtek started chemotherapy. I’ve been at the hospital with my son ever since.

Today, my son remains under the constant care of a medical team, and his daily life revolves around chemotherapy, bone marrow collections, and biopsies.

Family

The diagnosis came as a huge surprise to the whole family. Wojtek’s dad works abroad and can’t always be there for us, but whenever he comes home, he does everything he can to lighten our load, even just a little.

And then there’s 8-year-old Michalina, Wojtek’s sister, who misses her brother and me very much. Her grandparents are also a huge source of support; they’re always there when we need them most—quietly, consistently, and unconditionally helping us get through each day.

Little things

Before he got sick, Wojtuś was full of energy. His favorite thing was riding his bike; it brought him a lot of joy. He also loves all kinds of vehicles, which he watches with childlike wonder and curiosity.

Request for help

Today, the reality is different, and every day is a struggle to stay healthy and keep our strength. Medical costs are very high and continue to rise. That is why we are asking for your support with all our hearts. Every bit of help makes a huge difference on this difficult journey.
