Cuba is struggling with Nijmegen Syndrome and T-cell lymphoblastic lymphoma

Great news! We're in remission!

​Kuba has won his toughest battle against lymphoblastic lymphoma, and it’s been two years since his bone marrow transplant! He’s doing well now, and we only go back to the hospital for routine checkups every 2–3 months. We owe it all to you! Thank you for being there for us!

​The Struggle to Regain Full Fitness

​Although the cancer has gone into remission, we still have a long road ahead of us. We’re working hard to help Kuba regain his strength:

• Physical therapy:Kuba regularly attends sessions that help him regain his full physical abilities.
• ​Educational Support: During his treatment (over the past three years), Kuba’s illness has almost completely prevented him from attending school normally. To make up for this huge backlog, he is working hard in sessions with his teacher and speech therapist. Although he is 13 years old, he still has difficulty reading and writing.
• ​Hearing problems: We’re dealing with multiple perforations in the ear. We travel to Warsaw for appointments at the otolaryngology clinic. We’re waiting for a crucial appointment with a professor at the Children’s Health Centerand for detailed hearing tests to help us decide whether to proceed with surgery to widen the ear canals.

• ​The costs of rehabilitation, private educational and speech therapy sessions, and constant trips to see specialists are enormous.

June 23, 2026 Kuba is still battling complications from his transplant❗ Kuba has already undergone his transplant and is currently at home. However, it’s still not easy for him—he’s developed a skin graft, which he’s managing at home. He’s taking cyclosporine, which prevents transplant rejection. Our little warrior also has to take proper care of his skin. Unfortunately, steroid ointments aren’t covered by insurance. Recently, the boy has been experiencing abdominal pain. Consultations with doctors are ongoing, as there are concerns about the development of an intestinal graft. Kuba is also dealing with ingrown toenails, which are causing persistent inflammation. There are strong indications that these are side effects of chemotherapy. Currently, Kuba is trying to return to his daily routine—as smoothly as possible. The family is also working to renovate the bathroom and toilet so that our little warrior can use them more easily. We encourage you to continue your support! October 8, 2024 Kuba underwent a bone marrow transplant and is now facing further complications❗ At the end of May—specifically, on May 31, 2024—Kuba underwent a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, the procedure was not without serious complications. Our Warrior contracted a staph infection, which led to sepsis. The Broviac catheter had to be removed immediately. In addition, Kuba developed pneumonia, which turned out to be so severe that his respiratory function declined very rapidly. Transferring him to the intensive care unit was considered. He spent about a week and a half on oxygen and also developed hyperhydration syndrome. It took quite some time to reduce the excess fluid caused by the administration of medications. Kuba is a true Warrior—he pulled through and recovered, though he is still very weak. That hasn’t stopped him from smiling, though! His fight for his health and a return to normal life is far from over. After his hospital stay ends, our hero will need intensive rehabilitation and care.
