A visit to the eye doctor

One day in 2024, we noticed that our little daughter Liliana’s left eye looked different. At first, we tried to find a rational explanation. Maybe it was just an illusion? Maybe she was tired? But with every glance, our anxiety grew. The protrusion of her left eyeball became increasingly noticeable.

We didn't wait a moment; we went straight to the eye doctor.

Diagnosis

After the examination, the doctor referred us to the emergency room in Wrocław. We already knew that the situation was serious.

Late that evening, the decision was made to immediately transfer Lilianka to Przylądek Nadziei in Wrocław, to a high-dependency unit. The diagnosis came quickly: stage IV neuroblastoma.

Resume

We have already gone through a very long and difficult treatment process. Initially, Liliana underwent chemotherapy, followed by an autologous transplant, after which she received radiation therapy and immunotherapy.

However, a follow-up exam during immunotherapy brought news that hit us with tremendous force: a recurrence, located at the base of the skull.

After her relapse was detected, Liliana underwent additional chemotherapy and is currently preparing for a haploidentical transplant. Her father will be the donor. Following the transplant, the next stages of treatment are planned: another round of radiation therapy and immunotherapy.

Moments of joy

Whenever we can, we visit our grandmother, who is a huge source of support for us. Her home is a place full of warmth and peace.

Before she got sick, Liliana was very active. She loved to sing and dance. She’s also fascinated by the fire department. Every day we play doctor. My daughter has her own “patients,” whom she cares for attentively from the moment she wakes up. Even in difficult times, she still has that childlike joy.

At home, Liliana spends most of her time with her mom. In the afternoons and on weekends, whenever her health allows, she gets together with her friends and cousins.

A difficult separation

Mom had to quit her job so she could be there for Liliana full-time. Her dad works to make ends meet, but that means they’re often apart.

We’re living between the hospital and home. We miss each other terribly. Every time we see each other, every evening we spend together, has taken on a whole new meaning.

Today we are reaching out with a huge request for help. Our situation has changed. We need to make our home as safe and sterile as possible to ensure Liliana’s safety. There are still tests, consultations, and visits to specialists that involve significant costs.
