Lumps

One after another, lumps began to appear on my son Tomek’s body within a short period of time. Their number grew day by day. On top of that, he started experiencing drowsiness and joint pain, which he hadn’t had before.

A few days later, we received an urgent referral to the hospital.

Diagnosis

At first, the doctors suspected an infection or mononucleosis. My son and I waited for the results, trying to convince ourselves that it wasn’t anything serious. However, each new test brought increasingly worrying news. It turned out that my son had an enlarged liver, spleen, and lymph nodes.

The diagnosis came quickly. Acute lymphoblastic leukemia.

Treatment

Today we are at the Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Ward at the hospital in Szczecin. It’s a place no parent would ever want to visit, yet it has become part of our daily life.

The treatment began with steroids. Each dose administered offered a glimmer of hope that we could halt the disease and give our son the strength to keep fighting. After a few days, the doctors added chemotherapy.

Tomek is now on his second course of treatment.

Family

Although most of our world has shifted to the hospital ward, Tomek’s 11-year-old sister is waiting for him at home. The siblings, who until recently played together and shared their daily lives, now have to go about their lives separately.

They miss each other very much. Every phone call, every message, and every time they see each other is priceless to them. Tomek often asks about his sister, and she counts down the days until they can be together again.

Grandma and Grandpa have been a huge help through all of this. They’re the ones who help keep things running smoothly when our world has been turned upside down. Thanks to their presence, care, and dedication, I’m able to be there for Tomek during his treatment.

Childlike carefreeness

Before he fell ill, Tomek was a lively, cheerful boy. He loved spending time with his friends. Every day brought him new adventures and reasons to smile.

One of his greatest passions was cycling. He loved being active and enjoying a childlike sense of carefreeness. Today, he misses his friends, preschool, and the moments that were just a short while ago part of his everyday life.

Please support me

Today, our daily life isn’t just about caring for Tomek’s health, but also about coping with the enormous costs that are becoming an increasingly heavy burden. That is why I am asking for your support with all my heart. Every bit of help brings Tomek one step closer to recovery.
